Surely the best villain this country has ever produced.
In reply to Denni:

Blimey!! Not a good week for 69 year old cancer suffering celebrities.

That's another one of my icons gone in Jan. RIP Alan, you saved Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.

Took the words out of my mouth. The 60s generally don't seem to have been very good in recent years and 69 in particular.....

Very sad.

Sad news indeed.

I saw him do a reading at the Robyn Hitchcock birthday concert on the South Bank a while ago now. His delivery was nothing short of breath-taking and incredibly moving. The guy was clearly in a whole different league to the rest of us. A huge talent.

If this video had been anything else I would have been thoroughly disappointed.

I would have happily listened to him reading out the ScrewFix catalogue his voice was so wonderful.

I remember him best for his performance as Mr Slope in the Barchester Chronicles. His performance made me want to read the books and I've been a Trollope enthusiast ever since.

What about 'and you...bring a friend' from the same film?

In reply to Denni:

Not good news - never flamboyant, but always perfect for the parts he played.
And it would appear, a throughly decent human being.

Very sad news. One of my favourite British actors from Truly Madly Deeply through to his Harry Potter films. RIP Alan but you leave many happy memories.

One of my favourite actors.

Seen him in a film at Xmas ,with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz.

Was called 'Gambit'.not the best of films ,but enjoyable enough.

Mr Rickman did what he did best; playing a rather arrogant, unpleasant character.

And I mean that in the nicest possible way.He was wonderful.

Such a shame, RIP Hans Gruber.
In reply to Denni:

Dogma is another great performance by him, lighthearted and playing a goodie too!
