Hey folks,
So, the grand plan. Me and my girlfriend are hoping to get a small van (vauxhall combo, ford caddy size) and move to spain. we hope to work, climb and intermittently wwoof. This is the plan for certainly a year.
At the moment our big stumbling block is insurance and i'm wondering if other people have come across, and solved these same issues. In previous threads there are people referring to these issues, but no one seems to actually explain their solutions!
Our details:
male and female, new drivers, aged 23 and 24. Spending almost all our time in spain, but we don't want to totally restrict ourselves in terms of destination.
So far we've met two dead ends: we can't get British insurance companies based in spain (e.g. expat specialist companies) because we're under 25.
Secondly I can't find any British insurance companies that will insure us to be outside the UK for sufficiently long.
any advice folks? This is all especially bewildering for us, because neither of us have owned a vehicle before!

Try this

https://www.stuartcollins.com/

They are a specialist broker for unlimited european car insurance. Not sure if they have any age limits though.

So they got back to me real quick an told me i'm too young - no one under 25.

Other questions: anyone ever 'fronted' their insurance claim? i.e. put the insurance under a parents name and put themselves as a named driver? Any reason we couldn't do this in order to get insurance from places like stuart collins? The only reason i see why not is that i won't accrue no claims.

And I believe the insurance company not paying out (expensive for a 3rd party claim) when they investigate and find you are the main driver, worth googling cases on this

hmm yes. A small amount of research says this was a very bad idea :P

So, any other suggestions? Unlimited european coverage from someone under 25? It's got to have been done!

Talk to Adrian Flux. You can get 6 months overseas cover on a years contract that is cheap to cancel and then come back to the UK for a few days, cancel and restart the contract and you're set for the rest of the year. That's how it worked when i did it anyway. I'm also under 25.

Have fun!

My van is insured with National Farmers Union (NFU Insurance) and their UK cover allows me unlimited periods outside UK. I am over 25. I suspect they think no farmer will be abroad for long periods but it suits me. David Hillebrandt

Over 25? Surely not!
