And he's right ya know. We all might have a story to tell, but not all of us can tell it.

You can reduce it to a book, then pass it from one person to another. JS has done that remarkably well

I think he means the magic required to make the story, rather than the story itself. In modern parlance, there's no simple formula.

It's interesting because I've been thinking about stories in relation to climbing videos recently. The best ones for me always have a story to tell. If there's no story I usually find them boring: mere climbing porn. And magazines generally won't publish a photo, however good it may be, unless there's a story to go with it.

But not everyone can reduce it to a book that anyone will want to read.
