Anyone know if there is an updated edition of the subject guidebook in the offing? The current edition is nearing 20 years old, and I do like the photo topos of the newer SMC guidebooks.

It's to be broken up. Arran has already been included in Inner Hebrides. Some of the crags are in the new Highland Outcrops, due May/June? Southern Highlands and Arrochar will be in with Glen Coe, due in an unknown (to me) number of years.

Thanks Andy, looks like we've got a bit of a wait then.

When I last spoke with Steve, 2019 was mentioned.

I believe the new Nevis guide is taking priority.

Stuart, I think it's a case of whatever guide is ready first will be produced first. Although Simon may have chatted to Steve and they've agreed Ben Nevis will be first.

Are there any plans to release the guides in an electronic format? I'd like to have a guidebook on my phone for out on the hill - with a proper book for use at home.

It's clearly possible but the SMC is too small an organisation. Technical things change so quickly that you need a lot of sales just to cover the costs of development. Some day in the future maybe. It's been talked about for years and quite a lot of money has been spent. But even producing a database hasn't happened yet. A lot of guidebook writing is done for nothing but IT specialists either don't have time or charge a lot. There was talk of an electronic version for the popular sport crags but nothing has happened yet.

Thanks for the reply, I can see there is more to it than I thought.
