"The" Arapiles? As in "the" Ben Nevis, "the" Snowdon, "the" Scafell Pike etc etc....surely Arapiles or Mount Arapiles. It is sometimes however referred to as "the Piles". You know, as in "the Ben". Pedantic, I know, but it looks silly on a website that intends to be an authoritative source to get the name of such a location wrong. Akin to Surfer Magazine publishing an article about "the" Teahupoo.

Looks like a great route but the title is rather inappropriate (in both senses).

In reply to Karl Bromelow:

I think it is "Mount Arapiles" (not The Mount Arapiles) however "the Arapiles" is commonly used as a concatenation for "The [routes|climbing|crags] of Mount Arapiles" as in "I went to Mount Arapiles and climbed on the Arapiles" or I went to Ben Nevis and climbed on the north face of the Ben, "the ben" being a corruption of "the beinn" or "the mountain".

Because young women shouldn't have sex?

In reply to Mike Highbury:

No, because of the unfortunate connotation of a 1970's porn film, with which I'm pretty sure Ms. Finlay would not wish to be associated.

All very well - but the point in this case is that *nobody* says 'the Arapiles.' You might 'go to Mt Arapiles', or 'climb at Arapiles' - but 'climb at *the* Arapiles'? - no.
