Hi,

A new twist on the theory of bike thieves following people home to find out where they live so they can come back later to steal bikes.

A post has been shared on my local mountain biking Facebook page, warning people that bike thieves could now be using GPS tracking devices to work out where you live.

Scenario would go that you rock up to trail centre/known biking haunt car park. Thief watches you unload bikes and waits for you to leave. They then attach a magnetic tracking device to your vehicle. This will then enable them to track your vehicle back to your house. They will then, at some point, remove the tracking device and, possibly at another time, come to your house and steal your bikes.

The potential is enormous - a single thief could fit multiple tracking boxes within a few hours and thus identify numerous targets quickly, rather than having to follow people home themselves.

I'm not ruling out a hoax, but might be worth pulling over and checking your vehicle somewhere on the way home, rather than becoming a victim.
