Hi
My wee boy (4 years old) is not giving me a rest and keeps asking me when we can go and climb a mountain. His first ever
So I decided it must be the right time to introduce him to hill walking. Naturally i am looking for something easy and below 1.5h each way (from a car park). I would like the Trossachs area but will consider anything within 1hr from Glasgow. Any suggestions?

Thank you
Pawel

Conic Hill is good

Conic Hill? Also has the bonus of starting by Loch Lomond so he gets to play on a beach afterwards too.

I'd have said Ben A'an too, but I think there was talk that the path is currently a muddy nightmare due to forestry work and a diversion?

2nd vote for Conic Hill. Be carefull near the top. Its a good length, starts in the trees, emerges onto moorland then rocky at the top. Great viewpoint. Cafe back at the bottom selling ice cream. Basically has it all.

Thank you all. Funnily enough the Conic hill was the only one I had in mind looking for other alternatives. But based on your responses it looks like Conic hill is the best one Thank you.

A few other options for you:

Windy Hill http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/glasgow/windy-hill.shtml
Dumgoyne - first part of http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/glasgow/dumgoyne-earls-seat.shtml
The Whangie http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/glasgow/the-whangie.shtml
Lime Craig http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/lochlomond/highland-boundary-fault.shtml

The Ben A'an path works are supposed to finish this summer sometime.

All the other suggestions are good.

Just to add Meikle Bin http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/glasgow/meikle-bin.shtml

Not the most interesting of climbs, although nice enough on a good day. Fantastic views from the top though, and there is also the wreckage of a plane scattered over the hill side. There is a piece of wing near the path which is easy enough to find. If your son is into that sort of thing going exploring for the other bits can be a bit of fun.

I think this is around the time of the year that some areas around Conic Hill can be covered with young frogs. I remember going with my dad when quite young and there was an area that was near carpeted with them. 4 year olds generally go nuts for frogs

If you do opt for Conic Hill, bear in mind that the Highland Fling race is on April 30, and the place will be heaving with runners and their supporters

Ben A'an would be a good alternative as well.

A jaunt out to Lewis Hill over Sauchie Craig would be a great little outing for your son (and you!) http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4827980 Fantastic views for minimal effort but you'd need to watch him by the edges. We parked on the road just south.
In reply to Pietrach:
Duncryne by Gartocharn is a great little hill with stunning views but may be a bit short for your purpose - up & down in less than half an hour. You could tell him all about Tom Weir who lived nearby and adored the dumpling as he called it.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. We eventually did Conic Hill and got half way up, where we had a picknik. Then my son decided it is time to go back, but he loved every step of the way. Looks like we are going to do more of your suggestions. I looked at most of them and all look great.
Thank you
