Anybody got an informed opinion as to which is better?

I really doubt there's all that much difference. Get the one you can get a better price... you'll wear it out in a season or two anyway, be it either one.

Thanks. Although a fiver dearer, I opted for the Edelrid, as the Petzl was black... with a black middle marker.
