Kendal Wall, one of the UK’s largest and prestigious climbing centres, is looking for an energetic, creative and self-motivated person to join the team as Route Setting Manager.

As Route Setting Manager, you will oversee all aspects of route setting at the Centre. We currently have 200 leading routes from a height of 7m up to 25m (the highest in England) as well as an extensive bouldering area with about 150 problems. We are passionate about setting the very best problems we can on a regular basis and continue to expand and invest in new areas and in new ideas. Given the scale, size and layout of the Centre, this must rank as one of the most respected route setting jobs in the country.

Your role would include:

Overseeing the annual route setting calendar, including the scheduling of our in-house competitions, and booking external route setters as needed.
Overseeing our in-house setters, including training and mentoring.
Setting and managing the annual budget including the purchase of new holds and all other materials.
Supervision of all route setting including all aspects of safety and working at height.
Liaising with the Centre Manager and all other duty managers to ensure close co-ordination of route setting with other aspects of running the climbing wall.
Marketing of the routes through social media and our route setting database.
Setting and checking of routes yourself.
Maintenance of all walls and wall infrastructure, including repairs as needed.

We envisage the role would take on average about 16 hours per week, with a bias towards the winter months. This can be a part time role but we can also offer a full time, 40 hour per week role which would include instruction work and duty/desk manager work.

Our ideal candidate would:

Be a highly energetic self-starter with a can-do attitude;
Great team player and happy to lead on menial tasks as well as supervisory tasks;
Have a laser focus on safety and lead by example;
Be a passionate climber, including lead and boulder routes with extensive experience of both indoor and outdoor climbing;
Be an experienced route setter;
Have good handicraft and DIY skills;
Literacy in MS Excel, Word and other IT/social media platforms.
Flexibility in working hours and holidays to reflect the seasonality of the business.

If this fits your aspirations, please get in touch! Expected salary for a full time role is in the range £17,000 to £22,000 depending on prior experience and seniority. Closing date for applications is Monday 6th June 2016.

Email Kate@kendalwall.co.uk with your CV and a covering letter outlining why you are the right person for the job and whether you are looking for a part time or full time role. If the latter, please include other skills and experience such as climbing qualifications, instructor roles or other climbing wall manager positions.
