Dare I ask... why the EU referendum question at the end?

In reply to UKC/UKH News:

I think it was question 3, or at least one of the early questions, asking how often I climb outdoors.
None of the options (once or twice a month, just weekends, or more than twice a week) fit. I climb less than twice a week, more than twice a month, almost never at weekends.

Was thinking exactly the same thing.... Especially with no option saying "none of your damn business"

Ok, yes I see your point. In this case the 'weekends' answer would be appropriate since it is about frequency, not the actual day. I am not going to change the wording though since we have already had over 1000 responses, but I will make a note for changing the text for next time.

Seemed like a good opportunity to see where climbers stood on this question.

In reply to Alan James - Rockfax:
But there should have been a "I prefer not to say" option.

In reply to UKC/UKH News:

some questions are a little difficult to answer, e.g. "Have you ever been on an organised tour or expedition? -yes but as the organiser, or membership of clubs - I'm not a member of any of those listed but am a member of the Eagle Ski Club & the Club Alpin Français - neither really 'regional'

Filling in the survey is not mandatory Zephr, but by doing so, your helping paint a better picture of the climbing world your engaged in.
 ianstevens 20 May 2016
In reply to Alan James - Rockfax:

Fair enough - the rest all seemed to have an obvious objective to meet, but that one seemed a bit left-field! A political leaning question (i.e. left-middle-right) might have been interesting in the same vein.

In reply to Alan James - Rockfax:

I left the EU two years ago and my climbing has probably slightly improved
 zephr 20 May 2016
In reply to Daimon - Rockfax:

Perhaps - I can see the point of the vast majority of the questions, but asking political opinion on a climbing questionnaire without giving the option to "prefer not to say" makes it appear that answering the question is mandatory to finishing the whole thing. (though I realise it was not).

To my cynical mind it just appeared that the entire thing was a set up to the last question a bit like a stealth Brexit information gathering exercise.
Yes that says more about my state of mind than anything else, it just seemed odd and out of context

Come back Lee all is forgiven ...I'm sure you are missing those crumbling chalk cliffs too!

I was surprised not to see climbing wall as a choice in the where you bought equipment from. Many climbing walls sell at least shoes and I'm not sure they count as specialist shops.

Qu: 20. Does ukclimbing equate to Rockfax?
 Andrew Wilson 20 May 2016
In reply to Alan James - Rockfax:

I thought the same, as I often get out midweek and maybe a day at the weekend, so the weekend answer was nearest.
 Andrew Wilson 20 May 2016
In reply to UKC/UKH News:

Quite enjoyed filling it in, so a couple of questions need interpreting a bit but you get the idea (well I did anyway). Made me think about how much gear I buy annually, and other stuff like books etc., and how much time climbing obviously. Not in a bad way, it rather gives a satisfying sense of involvement in something that I really love doing.
It has also opened my eyes to a massive amount of online content which i had not really noticed before. I now have a huge list of sites to browse rather than just switching between UKC and Facebook at times of extreme boredom.
In reply to Fraser:

> Qu: 20. Does ukclimbing equate to Rockfax?

No, strictly http://www.rockfax.com. Not sure why we didn't include ukclimbing.com in that list tbh.

Good point! There's an other option on answers where you could have added that in the text field that appears when you click on it. A lot of the new answer choices for this survey vs. the 2013 one are from the other answers given last time.
 Graeme Hammond 20 May 2016
In reply to UKC/UKH News:

It is a shame the survey doesn't distinguish between mobile/tablet and pc/laptop use for questions such as "How do you rate UKC's design and ease of navigation" which is generally excellent on our laptop but on my phone some feature are near impossible to use.
 Jamie Hageman 20 May 2016
In reply to UKC/UKH News:

Can I go back and amend my answer to 'any negatives about UKC?' I've been trying to get a photo of some vintage ice axes into my gallery for days now, and nothing's appeared. I tried uploading it again yesterday and still nothing. What might be the reason for this?
 scope 21 May 2016
In reply to Alan James - Rockfax:

Thanks. I ticked 'weekends' as it seemed the most appropriate.
 Andrew Wilson 21 May 2016
In reply to Graeme Hammond:

Yes, this definitely makes a difference doesn't it. It's less practical on my iPhone, probably due to the size of display rather than the interface itself although some features do have niggles like you say.

It would be interesting to see the stats on the EU questions. Though you might want to release them after the official result is in to avoid getting some flak.

I was definitely intending on releasing them before the vote. Why would this be a problem? We get polls every day.

I wouldn't have any issues with that, just thinking some people might complain that it's political blah blah - but then some people always complain about anything... Anyway, the results will be interesting to see.

Clearly if you ask people what they're voting in a secret ballot referendum you should include the option "I'd rather not say"

I'm interested to see the results though.
 Barrington 27 May 2016
In reply to UKC/UKH News:

For "Clubs" it would be good to include an "other" option. You list the Army Mountaineering Association, but not the RN&RMMC or RAF Social Club.
