BTW.
"They are also being urged to dress properly for the terrain" - seems a somewhat odd remark in a piece about rockfall

Can someone remind me of the history here ?

Did Lords Rake a few times in my youth - last time was probably 30 years ago (in deep snow IIRC)

When did it become unstable and is likely to be safe again now (or soon) ?

There was a rockfall 5 or 10 years ago I think. Which left it in this state. http://www.andyfellwalker.com/walkgalleries/Lords_Rake_and_Foxes_Tarn/036%2...

People still went up there, but it scared me.

I have been told that the entire West Wall is unstable and will collapse at some point, but I wouldn't want to be in Wasdale when it goes.

From memory, at much the same time as the now-deceased rock fell, there was a slippage of the ground close to the start of the west wall traverse. Looking at what had slipped where (there used to be pictures on WHMRT's site I think), it was obvious that at some point a lot of ground was going to move a long way. Whether that point was going to be next winter, the next time we have monsoon-like rain, next year, next decade or next century was an unanswerable question and the best anyone could advise was to look sharp, and think on.

So if you're heading to Lord's Rake, look sharp, and think on.

T.
