Where are you seeing them around, indoors or outdoor sports? I haven't noticed them but then I tend to climb more trad outdoors.

I have noticed, recently, there are quite a lot carried as harness ornaments (bit like old fashioned horse brasses?) with the belayer using an ATC type for the actual belay process. This is on trad, both grit and lime.
Is there some sort of cachet in having one?
