I have a couple of adventurous types wanting to climb at Wintours for a couple of days. Is it possible to get away with wild camping/bivving if they keep on the down low and minimise their impact? Does anyone know of a good spot?

In reply to Danny Brown:

NO! All camping/bivvying in the Lancaut and Ban-y-gor Nature Reserves is strictly forbidden. You are likely to be chased out in the middle of the night if caught, and on one occasion this year the police have been involved. More serious is that it will threaten the tenuous access arrangements we have with the Glos Wildlife Trust.

Hi Danny

I'm sorry, the answer has to be no to wild camping anywhere at Wintour's Leap or Ban-y-Gor (they're both part of the same nature reserve). The Wildlife Trust have placed signs recently saying no camping or bivvying on the nature reserve, and it could cause wider access problems - there have been problems this year associated with wild camping there. I appreciate the intention to be discreet, but please camp elsewhere.

Cheers,

Rick (Wye Valley Access Rep)

Agree, a great place. Should be much more quiet now. Lovely views over the valley.
