We're doing the 9 Edges next weekend (walking), and puzzling over the route at the end. It's difficult to reconcile the requirement to follow recognised rights of way with the instruction to go above/below both Gardoms & Birchen - and a specific statement that if you go too close to the campsite you haven't really done it properly.

Any suggestions?

From the crossroads take the footpath heading south towards the gap in the trees - not marked on OS map, but obvious on the ground. After approx 1km you will hit the track below Birchens Edge. PM if you'd like map

In reply to Becky E:

There's a PROW SE from Gardoms but Birchens does not appear to have one which does raise a question for the organisers in that whilst you can hold such events on PROW it's less clear off them eg on access land where they're not 'allowed without landowners consent.

In reply to Becky E:

We (climbing) intend to go do our route on Gardoms. From there we will go through the gate where the wall meets the crag (just before Apple Buttress) and follow a path that leads up to Birchen.

Whether that's what you are "meant" to do, I don't know. We've run it the last couple of years and then you miss out Gardoms completely.
