I'm hoping to make it to the Ecrins next summer, with Visite Obligatoire on the Dibona as the primary goal. But I can only manage a week or so, so I'm wondering whether there's any particular time when I'll have the best chance of not sitting around in the campsite watching the rain the whole time?

Was in Ailefroide in July a couple of years back and the wether was good most of the time: am I right in thinking he summer weather is generally more stable than oop north in Chamonix?

It's claimed to be the driest area in France. This could just be tourist board propaganda but I've been about 8 or 9 times and it's always been good weather.

If routes on the Dibona are you're target then I would advise to go later in the season, probably September. The crowds will be less and the descent should be snow free.
