Hi everyone

As the coming winter season approaches in the Alps, I am hoping to get out into the mountains off piste a little more. One thing that would help a lot with things like assessing avalanche danger etc is historical weather data. I am certain this must exist but so far have not found it.

Thanks!

H.

You made me curious... How would historical weather data help you asses avalanche risk?

Because the wind direction, temperature and precipitation from the past all affect the formation and condition of the current snow pack?

You can get archived data from here:
http://www.ready.noaa.gov/READYamet.php

The current GFS data is also available from the same place.

Weather Online also has GFS archives, but it may be "premium" content once it's more than a few days old.

Check the hindcast (last week) at meteoexploration, like: http://www.meteoexploration.com/forecasts/Engelberg-Titlis/?module=hindcast
