Apart from using it to SEND my V1s because I crush hard, I'm looking for something along these lines for winter and alpine. (BD vapour)

Any recommendations? Gonna be bought online so can't try any one

Perhaps knit one, allowing you to reflect over the click-clack of your custom carbon fibre knitting needles?

I've got the ME one - it's great, apart from the fact it's a bit small and doesn't fully cover my ears (and I don't have a particularly large head by any stretch of the imagination). It's seen far more use at Stanage than in the Alps though - I personally feel that a buff is much more versatile for summer alpine.

Thanks, I have a BIG head so that is good to know.

On a tangential note, how do you find the Vapor for alpinism? I'm seriously considering one to replace my ageing Elios, but I'm not convinced it's quite the right tool for bigger routes in the big pointy mountains.

Tried all sorts (have a big head) and this fits perfectly under a BD Vapour (including covering my ears):

Haven't used it for alpine yet unfortunately can't help.
It is 'quite' lightweight though. And after climbing in it a bit- I'm going to use it rather selectively when the walk in outweighs the objective danger.

Ps, a 'bit' pricey to replace for me personally.

Isn't that the definition of not great for a hat then?

I've always had this image of you as the type of person who would rock one of those "wacky hats" Zimp, you know, brightly coloured with lots of multicoloured little spikes on it, or perhaps lots bright orange fake hair on top. The type that says "look at me! I'm like TOTALLY zany!" Don't spoil it with a boring black power stretch thing.

To crush hard you need a woolly beanie knitted by your nan. To crush really hard you need one that looks like that but actually comes from a factory and has Red Bull on it.

These are pretty good, available from Costco. If there's no Costco near to you, then look out for the cheeky buggers that buy them from Costco and flog them on eBay for a few quid markup.

I've got a Rab shadow beanie which is a bit big but better loose than too tight.
Nice and light but it's not very thick, so depends how hot u get

It keeps my head warm when it's cold and windy, apart from the bottom fraction of my earlobes, and fits comfortably under a helmet. It's not a disaster by any stretch of the imagination.

I like a cap/beany with ears covering flaps and a brim on the front that doesn’t cover my eyes. I use a lightweight HH/Odlo thing most of the time in Scotland. In the winter cold I use an OR Bonnet/Beany with the form you mention. Don’t take wind stopper on your ears. You want to know when your partner is on relais/belay.

I made a cap very like that 20 years ago, from two layers of Karisma fleece. Sadly, it got left behind in a ski chalet when my friends packed up all my stuff whilst I was in hospital after a skiing accident.

Maybe I should make another one...
