We headed in to Lochain today. Clearly plenty of snow since the previous day as all tracks obliterated and we spent nigh on 4 hours breaking trail. Cloud in, so we only saw Savage Slit once within 10m of it! Extensively rimed! Hard to believe it had been climbed the previous day as everything required excavation. Picking a route at the top end of our grade range for the first of the season was perhaps not a recipe for quick climbing and, what with the long walk in, once halfway up the slit we realised a daylight top-out was off the menu so retreated. Cracking day though.
Not much snow coming down today so hopefully tomorrow's hopefuls will be able to follow our tracks. It's all in, folks.
