It's recently been released and I've been chomping at the bit waiting for it.
I could shower it with adjectives but I won't, other than to say that it is utterly superb.

If you have any interest in skiing, ski mountaineering, or beautiful films of the alps, have a watch.

A lot of people would struggle to get up stuff he's skiing down at the motorway speed limit

Amazing, just watched this - thanks for sharing.

I know absolutely nothing about skiing so stupid question:

Why do they have to turn at all - why can't they just go down straight and super fast then turn out at the bottom of the slope?

You have identified the reason already. It's the bit about "super fast."

Speed - control - and crashing (or avoiding crashing).

There's a good scene in one movie where some guys are looking at a face and the conversation goes something along the lines of 'I'll ski that line in 5 turns, no I'll ski that line in 3 turns, actually I'll ski that line in no turns.' As you get better at skiing you can do less turns on a line and follow it directly down.
