It's going to be a long day - Dealing with boredom

Morning,

I'm bored already, all the students are out doing activities. The place is empty.
Apart from a few bits of tidying around the place I'm going to be at a loose end mainly today.

Somebody amuse me please.

Hack into Trump's Twitter and start a war?

No, wait. Maybe Putin beat you to it.

I am wasting time on the internet. Really wish I'd brought some knitting to work today so I could waste time productively. I do have a 2 hour planning session booked in with a colleague at a cafe, and then the section Christmas buffet...

Ozzy the Weasel is amusing (well, if you like weasels): https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=best+amusing+youtube+videos&ie=utf-8&...

Ozzy the Weasel in the 'Mine, all mine!' episode is found to be particularly hilarious in our house.

I've really been enjoying these maths videos on youtube lately. This is a good channel: youtube.com/watch?v=uCsD3ZGzMgE&

Could you imagine...?!

Did you see the disclaimer:
"A weasel is not a pet. They hate being locked up, they're not friendly when hungry. Don't get one. Seriously. Ozzy is a special case." Did you see the video where he takes the piece of meat? I would not mess with that animal.

Damn I want one until I read the following

Disclaimer: A weasel is not a pet. They hate being locked up, they're not friendly when hungry. Don't get one. Seriously. Ozzy is a special case rescue baby. Cute, but deadly.

I know - maybe it's just that we'd all like to have Ozzy.

Our abnormally small cat looks quite a lot like a weasel, so it sort fills that Ozzy shaped space in our lives. She kills like a weasel as well.

Better go, cake and coffee, oops, I mean planning session in starting in 1 minute.

Oh I know, I just read they can kill animals 10x their size. Vicious little bastards!
My youngest wants to get a ferret, probably a better idea.

We've got a a big fur ball of a Maine Coon, who is all mouth and no trousers. Ozzy would kick his arse (as does every other cat in the neighbourhood!)

You are so lucky. I love Maine Coons!! We had one when I was a kid. He used to wind up our beagle - but only when she was on a leash. He knew to the inch the exact distance the could travel. I didn't realise being soft was an inbuilt character trait.

Bit late to the party as the day is over. However, for next time there is always this;

or just read guide books and get psyched.

I challenge you with "gastropod".

I've never heard of that. That's an interesting concept

It took me 10 clicks.

That's quick - I thought gastropod would be a little tougher than that. Maybe to science-y.

In my last job, which was in an open plan office, we had cross-departmental competitions.

Glad you enjoyed!

That is utterly brilliant! Five clicks by the way.

How can it be five clicks ?

Five clicks gets you to "List of natural phenomena"

If I'm playing it right. Maybe not.

Numberphile are great. If I have a bit more time (waiting at airports, etc.) I tend to listen to actual lectures on subjects I can just about follow. Also useful for general time wasting! A recent one that I had to listen to a couple of times is on general relativity:

A friend at uni had a terminally stupid Maine Coon that would drink from a pot of water on the gas hob and was genetically unable to learn that stepping across a burning flame is unwise with that hairdo....

The mess and smell a burning MC leaves as it runs through a flat takes forever to get rid, and you get one ugly cat!

I'll have a look shortly. They've really rekindled my love of maths, and I've begun to start seriously pondering a subject I've always been interested in (the uncharted swamp that has chaos theory, fluid flow, self-replicating automata present).
