I remember reading that planning application. Notwithstanding the significant environmental impact, my take on it was that their impact assessment towards 'users' of the site was that as it wasn't a high volume tourist site, so a handful of anglers , and some elite canoeists were the only groups who would notice the changes.
It's worth a walk down there, just to see how special that place really is. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to stretch their legs - maybe on one of those 'can't be bothered to go out on the hill today' days..
