Richard Adams, author of Watership Down and another person who impacted my youth, died today.

A film I watched so often as a child. Fascinated and disturbed me in equal measure. It would probably bring me to tears if I watched it now. Every child should watch this film. Bright eyes.....

I've been meaning to watch/read Plague Dogs - now's as good a time as any.

Comes almost full-circle: It was first published in 1977, and features a few location maps drawn by Alfred Wainwright, a fellwalker and author.

A sad time.
Every child should read the book rather than watch the film though.

Yes, although in this case the film was pretty good and stuck close to the storyline of the book. I tried to get my kids to watch it a few years ago but, at 6 and 8, it was too dark for them then. Perhaps it might go a little easier now they are older?

Agreed. The film showed that you didnt need to sugar coat stories for kids

The film was one of the best book to film adaptations I have ever seen but in my opinion still not even close to the book.

It's one of the few books that actually brought a tear to my eye as Hazel leaps away with the black rabbit at the end.
