Hi all,

I'm heading to North Wales later this month and picking up a friend on the way. We are coming from Dorset and he is catching an early train from London. So, is Birmingham the best place rendezvous? and if so, any idea's on the best station so as we don't have to drive into the city? No offence to you Brummies, but trying to optimise climbing time of course.

Cheers

If you are going to North Wales on the M27, M3, A34, M40, M42, M6, M54, A5 route then Didcot Parkway is probably the easiest to drive to, cheaper for your friend, and wont have to get up so early.
If you are going across to the M5 and up the M6 then Chester and take the (quick) A55 to N Wales otherwise there are London trains to Shrewsbury, handy for the A5 approach.

In reply to Derry:

Get a train from Euston to Lichfield Trent Valley. You drive either via the M40 or M5, then the M42. Follow signs for Lichfield, station is 1/2 mile from the A38. 20 minutes free parking, not in the centre of the city, then drop back onto the A38 south, and pick up either the A5 to North Wales or take the M6 toll, M54, Shrewsbury and North Wales.
