Power based interval training

Hi,

I have been doing quite a lot of spin biking interval training, based on my functional threshold wattage.

I am from a running background so limited knowledge of specific cycle type sessions, being doing things like 5 x 3mins at 100% plus wattage with 1 min recover, or thresholds type sessions 6 x 5 mins with short recover, or over under type session.

But I am looking for more ideas, links to website or books with structured watt based training plans? Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers

Daryl.

as above and also when for? Are you aiming to peak for something? FTP goes up and down over the year for various reasons

But before the can of worms of what to do for X, various sites do suggest/offer/require payment for plans based on your goals

Trainerroad
todaysplan
trainingpeaks

various books out there too such as Joel Friel's The cyclist's training bible (never used one mind)

Wattbike do some programmes

In addition to info already given, sufferfest has lots of great training sessions.

2 * 20 at sweet spot (about 90% of FTP) is the 'classic' work out with 5/10min rest.

There are a number of options but the best are probably:

Trainerroad is good

https://www.trainerroad.com/

Sufferfest is also good

https://thesufferfest.com/

Trainingpeaks very good but lots of high end detail

https://www.trainingpeaks.com/

Zwift - about as much fun as you can have indoors and almost as good as the real world, it has a number of training plans that are probably not as good as the others but Zwift offers a lot more other stuff.

A lot depends on what your personal goals are - speaking personally my main objective over the next 3 months is to build my FTP by structured indoor training (I use a Wattbike mainly on Zwift). Come Spring I'll build up the miles outdoors and enter a few 100 mile Sportives to build up the base miles with the aim of peaking mid summer for my main goals.
