Looking for suggestions on a higher crag (as apposed to Shepherds etc.) with easier rock routes and a nice flat / sheltered spot for a bivvy.

Not that I'm expecting anywhere to be busy but the quieter the better.

At the moment Grey Crag Buttermere is an option.

Thanks in advance.

What time of year are you planning?

Its nice to approach here (https://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=761#maps) from the north, then when done, walk up to Sprinkling Tarn for overnight and get an early start on one of the more 'historic routes' in the area before the crowds turn up.

Saturday and Sunday!!

Hopefully the right crag will be dryish and with a pair of gloves at belays our hands should stay warm enough!

Pretty damp/claggy on the fells all this week- not raining, just in the clag from 3-400m or so. Maybe a bit character building for climbing, but at least not too cold. Classic 'big boot' routes are the easy ones on Raven linked above, typically Corvus. you could do intake ridge, or cam crag ridge (from langstrath), on the way in; also Gillercombe buttress. Another option might be Dow, although I didn't enjoy Giant's crawl (d) in the wet, slippery slidey slabby. Buttermere grey crag would also be a good.

Nowhere will be busy!

Thanks for the heads up re the dampness! I guessed as much given this weeks thaw. Is the rock damp / wet?

We've had our backsides kicked at Dow before in the winter (it was blue skies when we started only for a blizzard to appear) so will wait for sunnier day to go there again!

I've bivvied before at Ravens and have done the routes you mentioned so maybe venture there Saturday night after a stay at Grey Crag Friday night!

Thanks
