I'm trying to load a version of memory map and I get a message saying that api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is not installed on my pc. I've gone into http://www.erroranswers.com/lp/dll.php?t=Runtime.dll
Anyone know anything about this. I want to make sure that I'm not going to send my pc into orbit if I click on "FIX"

I think you would be mad to download anything from that site. I would follow the instructions from stack overflow

Followed the instructions from that link(thanks) but when I go to Control Panel --> check for updates nothing happens other than a box saying "Checking for updates" which goes on and on and on and on...

It's been going now for over two hours.

Somebody help PLEASE

In reply to FesteringSore: I'd have rebooted and retried some time ago. If you look at a performance meter is anything happening?

In reply to FesteringSore: there's a process admin tool on the task bar in Windows - i can't remember the exact name. Is the tool thats checking for updated running, dead, just taking a long time?

I can't see anything much happening on Task Manager - nothing about updates being checked

Sorry mate was away painting. I am assuming you have a 64bit computer so download and install:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/3/F/93FCF1E7-E6A4-478B-96E7-D4B285...

(It is Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable which contains the DLL you are missing)

Restart your computer, and try to reinstall memory map.

8.1

Try the 8.1 update here, looks like memory map is trying to use an element that is included by default in Win 10 but not 8.1

Thanks for the link. Now got a dialogue box headed Windows Update Standalone Installer Searching for updates on this computer.

It's just going on and on and on... (Task Manager not showing any activity)

You could try this:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/2714434/description-of-the-windows...

Which should fix the windows updater and then retry the standalone version. Or you could upgrade to Windows 10 for a more cheerful experience...

How good is Windows 10? I've been a bit loathe to commit to it.

I have found it okay, not had any issues in the last 6 months. Initially had some driver issues but intel fixed that. It is much like windows 7 but with a few more features that never get used. I was miffed with MS to start with for trying to force everyone over but now I'm there it is okay, and it passes the girlfriend test (she isn't techy but gets on with it just fine).
