Does anyone on here know if a cracked fireplace glass will be covered under standard contents insurance?
 rogersavery 27 Jan 2017
In reply to Jus:

Surely the excess would be more than buying the glass?
OP Jus 27 Jan 2017
In reply to Jus:

Nope, the glass is £700!

It's a right angled corner glass that can only come from the manufacturer.

Even though the fireplace is within warranty glass is not covered....

In reply to Jus:

How did it get cracked? As a fixed item, would it maybe actually be a building claim?
 balmybaldwin 28 Jan 2017
In reply to Jus:

Phone your insurer and ask if its covered. Given some of the claims I've seen paid out I would be very surprised if it wasn't

In reply to balmybaldwin:

Need to be a little careful, as asking will be treated pretty much as if you've claimed and may effect future premiums.

cracked grate caused too much heat reaching the glass. didn't realise it would
you think it might be covered under normal building insurance?

Hmm, not sure. I think they could argue that that was a maintenance/inspection issue, but I suppose it could also be seen as accidental damage. I think it might vary by insurer - have you asked them?

I do however think it's buildings rather than contents as it's a permanent fixture.

In reply to Neil Williams:

No, not asked yet - I thought I'd check where I might stand first...
