> Veteran actor Sir John Hurt has died aged 77, his agent has said. The Bafta-winning star, known for his roles in Alien and The Elephant Man, continued working despite being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015. Sir John recently starred as Father Richard McSorley in Jackie, the biopic of President John F. Kennedy's wife. He was given the all-clear in October 2015 but last year pulled out of play The Entertainer due to ill-health. Sir John had decided not to perform as Billy Rice Sir Kenneth Branagh's production on the advice of his doctors.

'You cannot touch me now. I am one of the stately homos of England'. A classic line from a classic performance.

In reply to pasbury:

You might ask his four wives and his kids how much of a 'queen' he was: or were you suckered by his portrayal of Quentin Crisp?

Heard quite a few tributeson radio and TV but no mention of what I thought was a pretty powerful performance in 1984.
