I am personally a big fan of watching competition climbing and quite excited for climbing in the Olympics. I'm not generally a fan of speed climbing but I'm very interested to see how our best of the best adapt to all three disciplines. Does anyone know when there will be some sort of Olympic based format in the UK to go see? Some sort of preparation or selection process?

My guess is that he Russians will destroy the comp as they do the speed climbing and will be able to adapt best to the other 2 disciplines.

I think adapting to speed climbing from a sport climbing and bouldering background will be much much tougher.

But I might be completely wrong!

There is a World Cup at Ratho this year. They will have lead and speed. There is talk that an Olympic style comp is planned but no dates as yet. Probably next year at the earliest.
The people who have won overall championships previously have all been good lead and bouldering climbers but get a reasonable speed result. Speed climbers don't transfer so well as they tend to be too specialised.
The other issue is that the only official speed wall in UK is in Ratho.

The Beacon had posters up at the weekend which seemed to be talking about an olympic style competition.

I heard this weekend that they have installed new high speed auto belays for the speed wall. Good that someone is taking the lead on it. Hope they get a good turnout for the event.
