Quite a few people who've been to the Karakoram will have heard of, and maybe shared some balti tea with, 'Little Karim', the Pakistani mountaineer from the village of Hushe in Baltistan. He started out as high altitude porter with Bonnington and Scott and went on to climb several 8000 m peaks. Sadly, today I heard from a friend in the Hushe Valley that Karim is seriously ill in the Military Hospital in Skardu. Fingers crossed he recovers.

Funnily enough, without Little Karim I would probably never have found UKC. It was while trying to find a copy of the documentary made about him that I stumbled across the site - and thanks to the help I got here, I found what I was looking for.

Sad news, hopefully he pulls through.

There is some nice footage of little Karim in this paragliding film.

Thanks for the link!

I heard yesterday that the head of the government in Skardu has agreed to cover the medical expenses so hopefully he has a chance.
