First and foremost - is it possible? I don't want to just follow along the motorways until I get there.

I'm going to be taking a leave of absence from work next year and would really like to attempt this. I love Cornwall and don't spend anywhere near enough time down there.

Any and all information is welcome.

Might be easier with a horse than a dog.

I presume you mean walking.

Off the top of my head, I'd look at heading west to the Welsh border, pick up the Offa's Dyke path, follow it south, cross the Severn bridge, then the coast path.

Good luck.

In reply to Mark Kemball:
From Hull, you could follow the Trent as far a Nottingham and then the Trent and Mersey Canal to the Midlands - T&M to the Shropshire Union/ Llangollen and then follow Offas Dyke or the Severn as far as the South West. Following the Severn might be shorter, but not as pretty. An alternative might be to head for the Grand Union canal south of Leicester and then eventually cut across through the Cotswolds towards Bristol.

sorry, wrong "reply to..."
