Hi
trying to buy a 1:50000 map covering Vilanova de Meia. I know its one of these http://ebotiga.icgc.cat/epages/ec4103.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/ec4103/Ca...
but not sure which one. Does anyone know please?

I think that will be the Noguera or Pallars Jussa map, depending on which side of V De M you are interested in. From the link you give above, click the button "Check the Shires". Find Tremp. Enlarge the map and move SSE to find Vilanova De Meia. Click on the map and it will tell you which map covers that spot.

IPP

PS If you enlarge that map enough it shows the few footpaths near the crags, and an accurate UTM grid ref.

Thank you very much. I will order the Noguera. Most Helpful.

You are welcome. I hope you have a good trip. It is one of my favourite areas in Spain for climbing.

We have been to Vilanova before. We did Camel and are hoping to do Nemoricon and Musical Express this time. But we also fancy Dierdre Farreny on Roca Alta, and there just look to be loads of rock around there. So hoping the map will allow us the chance to do a little exploration.

Amatista on Pas Nou/Pillar del Segre is worth doing to, if you haven't done so already.

Did Necronomicon (6a) last year - great route, bit intimidating but actually quite straight forward. Our mates who went to do Musical Express had a much tougher time - they found themselves on something a few grades harder

Re ME. My mate tells me it is 5c if you pull on a bit of gear to get around the overhang. He is more than capable of 6b+, and I am a shameless cheat on sports routes. I shall advise him to practice his hauling techniques. Diedre Farreny is more stuff.
He has also mentioned Amatista.

For Vilanova this map is just the job. Vilanova is pretty much in the centre. Not as detailed as OS, but seems ok. Will see how it is in the field so to speak.

Fully agree with other folks' comments regarding route recommendations and difficulty. That crux overhang on Musical Express is indeed a bit of a ba....rd, especially when it's warm (polish).

Re Roca Alta: I've been up around there quite a few times but only in a walking/metal-detecting capacity (my buddy Albert Cortés is really into his Civil War memorabilia) and it's a stunning location. If I remember correctly, by far and away the most popular route up there is 'Porno Star' — 6b (oblig.V). Not only is the climbing supposed to be very good but it's also the only fully equipped route on the cliff...

Pete.

Thanks very much. I shall relay the info to my intrepid friend. It is a great area which I hope to explore more over the coming years.
