With so many popping up over the country is there anywhere left that still needs a decent bouldering centre?

I starting looking into the setting one up in chelmsford, but quickly found out I'd need more money than I can get at the moment.

It would be nice to have one in Dunfermline or somewhere in Fife, not sure if there is enough demand though as it's not a big population and Ratho isn't a long drive.

Big Rock's bouldering is pretty good, but I think the popularity and busy-ness there is actually getting to the point that MK (or surrounds, say Bedford, Buckingham or other nearby place) could sustain a second centre, perhaps bouldering only. (I know there's the Pinnacle but that's primarily a roped wall, the bouldering room is very small)

Alien are going to replace Alien 2 with Alien Bloc which will be much bigger. Check their Facebook.

Cambridge has a bouldering wall. Do you mean a better bouldering wall?
In reply to Removed Userdaverholmes:

Sheffield....

I know I know it has the Works but it coud easily handle another top level Bouldering Wall.... separate to other suggestions their is proven demand as the Works is always busy and often HEAVING

For those who wish to train regularly there are going to be lots of gaps to fill.

How far do you think it is viable to travel several times a week?

Yes. Ideally one that's about four times as tall and has ropes!

Cute. It's a two hour drive each way from my house to a wall that's bigger than a squash court.

Fair point. But trad crags aren't great on cold, dark wet winter evenings.

It looks like councils should be providing bouldering lorries that tour the needy parts of the country that don't have easy access to bouldering venues. I think the mobile library model could serve as a suitable model...

The Yeovil triangle of doom!
A black hole forgotten by climbing. Equally far (over an hours drive) from surrounding walls in Bristol, Exeter and Poole.

Grimsby. In fact anywhere in North East Lincolnshire. Where else in the England do you have to travel for more than an hour to get to the nearest wall?

In reply to nic dill:
Probably quicker to bristol from taunton, but bath still has a good catchment area... traffics a nigtmare though... Preferably East side easier in and out, or central/ north.

In reply to Mr Fuller:

If you asked "where else in UK do you need to travel 1 hour to get to a quality climbing wall" I think you'd get lots of responses. I have nearly always traveled to climbing walls. The nearest bouldering wall to me is over an hour away at weekends. In the week it isnt practical time wise. The nearest lead wall (no real bouldering) to me is about 8 miles. This can often take 45 minutes without trying to be unusual, bless traffic. And then it isn't world class. Though I am thankful it is there! My bet is many people suffer similar journeys to their indoor walls, but a wall every 15 miles probably isn't profitable.
