Hello Forum

Has anyone here been to La Paz and bought gas canisters? It appears to be hard to find out so far if any shop stocks them. The Tatoo branch shop in La Paz appears to be permanently closed now. Would need exact details I.e. Address or phone number to call and confirm

Cheers in advance

Yes it's available, though we found we did have to hunt a fair bit in the many knock-off outdoor shops around Sagarnaga/Illampu. And it's not particularly cheap.

This article on Bolivia might be useful for general info: https://www.ukhillwalking.com/articles/page.php?id=7442

We found lots at the market in Alto, might not be full mind you.

A great article - thanks for the share. So is it likely if we tramp around that area (Av. Illampu?) that we should find something?

Is it that people mostly use white gas instead then?
In reply to sanguine:

Yes, just wander/ask around in town and you'll likely find enough. I didn't try the market in El Alto - assuming you're staying in La Paz proper, that might be a bit of a hassle. A good travel experience though, doubtless

A warning, although it is from 18 years ago. We bought gaz cannisters in La Paz only to find on the mountain that the burner we had brought from the UK didn't fit the thread. Suggest you check before you buy!
