Whilst acknowledging that large disparities in wealth can cause problems for a society we also need to recognise that if that 0.01% only owned, say 10% of the wealth then it doesn't automatically follow that the other 12% would be distributed amongst the remaining 99.99%. Its quite possible that the 12% wouldn't exist at all so the 99.99% wouldn't be any better off anyway.
Wealth is not a finite commodity, it does not follow that if I have more somebody else must have less, that's not how it works.
Interestingly, it would appear that Namibia, Zimbabwe, Denmark and Switzerland all have greater levels of wealth inequality than the USA. Make of that what you will.
