I tried to link from the Times website, but that didn't work, there was more detail in the Times.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4434466/EU-ahead-Britain-trade-deal...

With the EU being larger collective of countries with whom other member of the global community can trade with, an analogy one might use is to see the UK as being a 'smaller company than the EU' for want of a better way of putting it, in giving less rewards for going through the process - time and cost of negotiating trade deals with, is.

With this in mind, Trump deciding to put the UK behind the EU in priority in therms of trade deals negotiations seems like something which people should consider quite carefully when deciding on how to vote for in PM May's up coming snap election.

Yep, May is forgotten about.

But to be fair the UK is never going to be first in the queue when it is at least two years away from even being able to legally negotiate and the EU negotiation is already running.

The EU, if it has any sense, will negotiate for terms which limit any bilateral deal between the UK and US and they'll get signed off before the UK negotiation even opens.

His about turns on the merits of the EU and NATO suggests that. Which could seem to put our trade agreement-negotiating future in a similar position, a place of fluid uncertainty*?

*As far as the US goes.
