Any tips on bike / chain care if stored out doors ?

In reply to alan.rodger:

Can you cover the bike?

In reply to alan.rodger:

Buy a cover is probably the best advice as outside storage will gradually destroy more than just the chain.
You can often find covers for sale in places like aldi or lidl.
Otherwise, you'll need to be meticulous about washing and then first use something like wd40 to drive water out before drying it off with a rag and oiling with a good lube.

Get a proper dutch bike. They are made to be kept outdoors.

In reply to alan.rodger:

If the bike has been ridden on roads that are at all salty, even dry and salty, the salt stuck on it will attract moisture and it will rust like hell. Wash it with car shampoo, allow to dry, pull the chain through a rag soaked in paraffin, re-lube and spray bright pats with WD40 or wipe with an oily rag.

My bike was ruined within months of being stored outdoors. The chrome corroded and the chain and gears rusted solid.
It's not good for them.

A King size bed is the soloution, Although I would lub/ wax my chain with paraffin wax to avoid soiling the sheets; )
