Radiolab is one of my favourite podcasts - R4 are currently broadcasting one I haven't heard before on the most fundamental stuff about language. Brilliant stuff, quite light and easy-going in how it's presented, but mind-bendingly fascinating science/philosophy, getting to the nub of what the hell is everything?

"What is thought without language?"

Highly recommended!

I heard it accidentally last night and thought it imaginatively dealt with some quite profound and complex arguments. The editing was a little irritating but the whole was good.

I second the recommendation!

In Henry Marsh's book 'Do No Harm' , he describes an operation he conducted that went wrong leaving a patient in exactly this state, intellectually intact but devoid of language. The horror of such a situation stuck with me.
I'll look out the podcast.
