[beginner safety question ]
Hey
About a month ago, after finished climb I put everything to backpack, forgot to untie the overhand knot on my new 16mm nylon sling. The knot was loaded with my bodyweight. Today I found this sling still with the same overhand knot on it. I untied it but the sling looks a bit deformed along the knot section (It has been tied for almost a month)
The question:
Is this sling still safe to climb with?
thanks

In reply to mike.gore:

Yep, with a little use the deformed bit will disappear.
In reply to mike.gore:

Well done for untying it !

It'll be fine. Run it back and forth between your fingers a few times and it'll start to return to its usual shape.

Cuts/Fraying, burns, discolouration (sun exposure) or oil contamination are the things to watch out for.

In reply to Ron Rees Davies:

oil contamination is actually not a problem for dyneema or perlon.

The typical chemicals to watch out for are strong acids, although strong bases can also be a (less common) problem.

And that extends to fumes that emminate from car batteries!
