Watched the film last night and was amazed to see that as they set sail from Peru the crew was dressed in suits and ties with trilbys and other smart hats! Once out of sight of land their glad rags were stowed away for the rest of the voyage. It's hard to imagine an expedition setting off in such attire these days. I think however that the 1950s Himalayan Expeditions travelled out to India in smart clothes too and maybe they even dressed for dinner at Base Camp in the 1920s Everest expeditions?

I saw the film in the cinema when it came out and really enjoyed it, quite captivated really. Beautiful photography and of course a famous story. I started to watch it last night but unfortunately was a little too tired to stay up after a long day escorting a 77 year old in shoes that really worried me up and down Cat Bells!

I watched this for the first time last night. I knew the story from a book I read at junior school some years ago, but the film was very entertaining.

Kontiki museum in Oslo is well worth a visit. It's right next door to the Fram museum which is even better. Good way to end a trip to Rjukan or similar.
