Whats with the direct messaging service on UKC. Is there something im doing wrong? seems patchy at best.

There are a few things that add up to make it a bit flaky:

Some people don't want to receive mail.

Some of those who may want to receive mail set up their accounts a long time ago with ancient email addresses that no longer work.

And even if someone does have a valid email address and the "i want to receive mail" flag set they might have a spam filter that eats it anyway.

The "direct messaging service" on UKC is just a web form that sends an email to the address registered by the recipient, with the "reply to" field set to the email address you registered for yourself. In my experience, it's as good as the two parties ability to use their email.

I understand it just forwards it to an email address, but sometimes it just wont. See the confusion quite often so obviously not just me.

Right email address.
Email replies accepted by anyone.
Spam empty.
