Has anyone ever been to the Abisko Ice Festival and know what it's like? Clinics and climbing in the area good?

Haven't been, although I know someone who has when they were quite new to ice climbing and they enjoyed it. I've climbed the routes in the canyon there, nice but only a shortish day. My impression is that the ice around there is reasonably limited but loads more bigger stuff once you cross the border. Beautiful part of the world though.

I haven't been to the ice festival, but I spent a week there one Feb photographing the aurora. The (mini) canyon is small, though as Toby states there will be much more stuff over the border. There will be no shortage of ice, when I was there night time temps were regularly hitting minus 30c.
Interesting part of the world to visit, and a very high chance of seeing the aurora if you go there (which is why I chose it).

+1 for Abisko; a great place to visit and the (large!) youth hostel very good

I'd see the ice climbing as a bonus and especially if there at the time of the festival
