Does anyone know if the start of the Arete Ryan on the Plan is currently accessible as I am aware that crossing the bergshrund can be problematic. Any information gratefully received. Thanks.

Best to call the Envers refuge or find the face book page & send a message.

I'd be surprised as historically mid July is the cut off point for access, but this year shrunds to various routes seem to be more amenable than normal considering the lean winter that was experienced.

By the way, the access may be ok, but the plan midi traverse is extremely dry so this may be a problem even though you gain access to the route.

Again, guessing, but extremely unlikely. Chamoniarde reported it last being passable at the end of June and there are not one, or two, but three bergschrunds to cross

There always were, the famous triple rimaye which I have done on the three classic routes that require passing this major obstacle, the Crocodile E Ridge, the Ryan, and the Pain de Sucre.

In reply to LJKing: won't the gullies on either side be pretty frightful ?
