I've only travelled in Rwanda so can't really comment as to what the climbing is like. Most of what I saw was either forested or cultivated hills and I didn't see much in the way of bare rock but there must be something there given the number of hills. If you can't find climbing I'd thoroughly recommend crossing into DRC to hike up nyiragongo to see the lava lake as a good way to spend a couple of days.
