Shoulder pain.

Well while palming off a wall on a corner route today I managed to tweak my shoulder. Symptoms are a slight ached and a mild/sharp pain towards the front of my shoulder when lifting my arm above my head or across my body. I think I may have just pinched the tendon a bit. If I were to google my symptoms I'm pretty sure the cure would be major surgery and a fair chance of a long drawn out death, so I'm asking here instead.
Am I best of fully resting it completely or just lightening up on the training but keeping it mobilised+stretches etc...?
Thanks folks.

In reply to Tigger:

Shoulder impingement. Go see a physio.

The latter, but the stretches and exercises you need to do need to target specific minor stabilization muscles, they won't be what you might normally think of doing. There is loads of info available on it (rotator cuff impingement) but everyone's problem can be a bit different so I'd see a physio definitely. (A Climbing specialist. When I had an injury like this, one 45 minute visit was enough to set me on the right track, you don't need to spend a fortune.)

Thanks folks, I'll see if it frees up over the weekend and if not get myself booked in.

In reply to Tigger: sounds Like the pain I Had with damage to the long head of the biceps - which only goes to show that you should get a proper diagnosis.

In reply to Tigger:
Sounds like an impingement. I had the same symptoms back in May. 1 month off doing some excersies and I was back climbing at my full capacity.

Don't climb on it. You'll just prolong recovery.

See physio.

Mike

I suffered the exact same injury at the wall at the end of March.
Went to physio first, who advised resting it and eventually put me in for mri scan (NHS, end of June).

After a couple of weeks, my scapula started sticking out. Went to GP. Got sent for 'urgent' (took 3 weeks) ultrasound.
Doctor put me in for mri that day.

Diagnosis turned out to metastatic tumour, eventually traced to pancreatic cancer.

Don't want to alarm you, but I would strongly advise you to see GP too.
I had no other symptoms.

Best wishes.

I had the same and it went on for over 6 months. Had loads of physio followed by MRI scan and steroid injections to no avail. Was at the point of surgery before saw a different physio who advised me to get down the gym and do lots of antagonistic exercises e.g. Chest presses. Within 3 weeks all the pain had gone!

Can't say whether it will work for you, but showed me the importance of antagostic training - after 15 years of climbing my shoulders had rotated forward causing pinching on the tendon.

Good luck and don't lose hope.

Thanks for the advice folks, after taking it easy of the weekend (slabs) it has eased off almost completely and is now just a slight ache when I raise my bicep to my ear. I'll keep an eye on it and up my antagonistic training a notch or two.
