Hello, does anyone know of companies that offer climbing insurance for expats?

Not living in the UK but going on climbing trips, i would like to get some form of insurance for bags, gear and accidents.

Being an expat means I do not qualify for the BMC cover.

Thanks

I had't realised that. That seems tough.

There re quite a few ex pats who post on here from time to time. Dominican Dave and Big Ger spring to mind.

Maybe you could try PM ing them to see what they do? Or if they see this thread, they'll respond?

It is because the NHS will not cover the cost long term medical care after a serious accident, as would be the case with a UK resident.

Thanks, now I understand.

I suppose Bexit will have an adverse effect on BMC cover for Europe if the EHIC arrangements cease to apply when we leave?

In reply to Trangia:
Not just the BMC, all travel travel insurance will cost more if EHIC ceases.

Ah, but won't it feel great to have control back?

Have been very pleased with Generali Travel Insurance's coverages for sporting equipment --delays, theft, damage.

Sporting equipment is included in Generali's Preferred (middle) plan. Their medical coverages are consistently highest in the market.
In reply to Inhambane:

I just use normal bank (HSBC) travel insurance. Most don't exclude climbing unless you're getting paid/guiding.

For mountaineering join the AAC UK Branch. They will accept non uk residents.

Neil does AAC mean Austrian Alpine Club?

HSBC wont cover me as I've been out of the country for longer than 6 months

I've had this problem and have recently used the AAC insurance, or local insurance from where I live.
In reply to Inhambane:

yes, Austrian Alpine Club.

I didn't mean HSBC UK, maybe there's other largish international banks where you're based.

You could also try big insurance companies like AXA, Zurich etc.
