Afternoon all,

I've been thinking about a winter trip to the Carpathians but cant seem to find much in the way of a guide book.

Just wondering if anyone has a title to mind that covers ice?

Thanks for any help

Scott

Hello,
I was on the Slovak side, walking in 2016. I visited the tourist information centre in Stary Smokivvec and picked up these two guides and a couple of laminated maps, treating the visit as a bit of a recce... One of them gives Summer and Winter routes (I think it is the first title), winter maps are also available showing ski routes and avalanche areas. I haven't got them to hand or I would give you a more definite answer.
Also see the website with English option... probably enough info to get you out there before you pick up the guide...
Good luck!
Jim

Hi Scott,
Can't think of a guidebook in english but if you have any specifc questions, please shoot.
March propably best time to go, dec-feb often high avalanche danger and crap conditions. If you're after pure ice routes, Dolina Bialej Wody on polish/slovak boarder is the place to go
