In October 2011, Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk became the first people to climb Mt Meru via the Shark's Fin. Anker first attempted the route in 2003, but retreated. He returned in 2008 with Ozturk and Chin, to spend 19 gruelling days on the wall before turning back 100m from the summit. The route became somewhat of an obsession for the team. This film documents their return trip.

Impressive peak, impressive route and impressive perseverance. How different must the view have seemed from the summit than the almost identical view from 100m lower and 3 years earlier.

Couldn't help but notice one quote that jumped out at me: "dragging loads equivalent in weight to 2 bath tubs". I don't know about you but I'm so used to dragging bathtubs up mountains I know exactly what he means!?

Hmmm.... Impressive achievement but as a film it did very little for me - I should have heeded the "cheesy" warning.
It really lacked any positivity at all.
Reminded me somewhat of the Whillans quote: "It's just a job of werk". Without the wit and good humour.

Having recently switched out a cast iron bathtub for an acrylic one, it occurred to me that that measure might cover considerable variance.

An amazing ascent to be sure, but the film is just too dour to be enjoyable or involving IMO.

The voiceover is only tolerable if you imagine it's Chris Morris delivering it.

What an amazing achievement showing courage and tenacity. Considering the exposure and conditions the filming is astonishingly good. I particularly like the spindrift sequence. I think the commentary matched the seriousness of the situation, but it's also a cultural difference. The Brits tend to be less intense, more jokey and self-deprecating.

I really enjoyed the full version of Meru - the climb, the shots and the back story. Full movie well worth a watch!

Yeah totally agree. This vid is just snippet of the full story. The feature length film is really interesting and well put together.
