Just come back from a great weekend of sport climbing at cheddar, got the Martin Crocker guide (really nice guide by the way).
One potentially stupid question, there are two grades for each sport route, a standard french grade and a second grade which doesn't seem to correlate to the French grade. If anyone could clue me in as to this second grade it would be much appreciated, thanks!

You mean like F7a+ [8B, 1P]?

It means the French 7a+ route has 8 Bolts and 1 Piton

You sure it's not the number of bolts? Might not be but seem to remember there is often a 6b or 5b or 12b?

In reply to beardy mike:

Yes, the number in square brackets is the number of bolt runners (but does not include the lower-offs). The format is used for sport climbs in all current mainstream CC and private south-west guidebooks, (though the Portland guide omitted the brackets). It is normally explained, but appears not to have been in the Cheddar series. Blame the anonymous, unpaid editor.
