The lancs twitter account is tweeting red alerts for uk.... its raining here and I'm too far south

I don't think you missed much last night. I was out on the Moray Coast and there was nothing doing. By the time it got dark the red alerts had gone to orange then green. I think the previous night was good, though.

there was certainly a geomagnetic storm warning yesterday - HF communications were affected

Yes - it was just that the highest intensity part of it was before dark.

Will need to keep an eye on that Twitter feed as I don't seem to get the email alerts anymore.

My luck has always been hit and miss (weather, time etc) though. however I remember 2 October's ago a red email alert led me to take a punt and head to a beach near Liverpool... Thank God I did....great show visible to the naked eye. Two months later I went to Iceland on several northern lights tours and seen absolutely nothing!! Just never know your luck.
